The Big Lie

It’s incredibly hard to find a way of being at peace with food. More than anything, the women and teens I talk with want to find a sense of peace, away from the relentless obsessions with food and weight.

Have you had this happen? You find a way of eating, of being with food that feels good to you. You are starting to feel grounded and back in control. Suddenly, without much warning, a voice inside of you begins to whisper to you of going back to old ways of eating. Of trying to eat like everyone else, or why the holidays are a perfectly reasonable time to do that. This happened to me recently.

We Chew Too Much Gum

When I finally quit smoking .. my last day was November 7, 2001 .. and I consider it to be “cold turkey”, although I used the PATCH to help me. I haven’t had the urge to smoke since.

My wife, on the other hand .. quit smoking on August 13, 2001 and instead of the PATCH, chose to use Nicorette Gum to help her stop smoking. She consider’s that also to be “cold turkey”, because she hasn’t had the urge to smoke again. However, she did get addicted to Nicorette Gum. It’s funny .. and we *can* laugh at this now .. but, her doctor actually recommended that she go on the PATCH to quit CHEWING NICORETTE GUM! She considered it, and even tried a week but, then gave up the Nicorette gum for sugar-free Dentyne Ice gum.

Binge Eating - Hiding Behind Food

Two Scientific Theories About Food Addiction - Are They Both Right

Several different theories about food addiction are being considered by the scientific community. Most of us have heard of the “thrifty gene” theory. This theory suggests that people who have this gene will eat more calories today as an instinctive response to the possibility of famine tomorrow.
